The job description from Sequence Holdings

Posted by Sequence Holdings on

About Sequence

Sequence acquires established businesses in the service economy and refounds them as market leaders. Refounding means rebuilding a business around what is now possible with AI, combining its existing strengths with new ways of operating.

We bring capital, engineering and operational expertise, working alongside each company’s leaders and employees. At the center is Atlas, our shared technology platform. What we build and learn in one business strengthens Atlas for the next.

Based in New York City, Sequence is backed by 8VC, Conviction, Lux Capital and other strategic partners.

What You Will Do:

Engineers on the Refounding team work like founding engineers inside established businesses.

You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with the leaders and employees at our operating companies, learn how the business works, and identify where technology can make the biggest difference. You’ll own problems end to end: deciding what to build, shipping it into real operations, and measuring whether it improves the business. That can mean redesigning a workflow or eliminating steps entirely.

The work is hands-on. You might connect fragmented data and legacy systems, build applications for front-line teams, or coordinate people and agents through an entire business process. You’ll build on Atlas and contribute reusable capabilities back to it, so the next engineer can solve a similar problem faster.

Engineering is central to how Sequence creates value. You’ll help shape the transformation thesis alongside engineers, strategists and investors, and build foundations whose impact compounds over years. Ultimately, success means leading the refounding of an entire industry platform.

What We Look For:

  • Customer obsession. Works directly with users, changes direction based on what they learn, and genuinely cares about solving real problems for real people.
  • Demonstrated track record of impressive academic, professional, or entrepreneurial accomplishments.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity. Can enter a business without a roadmap and determine what to build first by talking to people, not just reading documentation.
  • Raw horsepower and tenacity. Will run through walls to deliver results.
  • Proven ability to build from zero to one.
  • Strong communicator. Can explain technical architecture to a CEO and translate a front-line employee’s frustration into a system design.
  • Willing to spend meaningful time on-site at operating companies.
